There is unquestionably something attractive about going back in time in the fast-paced world of today, where modernity frequently rules the cultural scene. Through the power of vintage clothing, OTT (Over-The-Top) streaming companies have recognised our shared yearning for bygone eras and offered us the gift of time travel. These programmes immerse viewers in the aesthetics and fashions of the past while also offering compelling tales and a visual feast. Let’s have a look at five OTT programmes that have transformed into time machines that perfectly capture the appeal of vintage style and the feel of bygone times
JUBLIEE
The fictionalised history of India is told in the series, which is set in a Bombay (now Mumbai) film studio against the backdrop of the Partition of India and the country’s recent independence. There are many examples of that era’s fashion allusions. The Roy Talkies production team was dressed in neat, practical attire in dark colours, from the boss Srikant Roy’s pricey suits to a pushy producer’s showy shirts. We see glasses with large frames, pulled-back hair and high-waisted jeans. Chiffon saris with a slinky texture, puffed sleeves, collared tops, and neatly styled hair. That’s Sumitra Kumari, a famous actress who also oversees Roy Talkies’ daily operations. An ornate anarkali, a straightforward salwar kameez and trouser-shirt combos can all be found in Niloufer’s closet. Unmissable are the flawless curls that remind of Madhubala. Each episode pays vivacious homage to the distinctive fashion of the time by fusing period-appropriate attire with modern touches, making it a must-watch for both fashion connoisseurs and fans of the ’90s. With Jubilee, travel back in time to relive the decade’s fashion enchantment!

THE ROCKET BOYS
This inspiring story, Rocket Boys, has three main themes: science, history, and India’s success. But what fantastic story would be complete without some traditional love, am I right? Rocket Boys transports audiences to the heyday of the ’50s and ’60s, when classic fashion ruled supreme. The line expertly exemplifies the elegance of vintage clothing with perfectly made classic suits that radiate timelessness. The women adorn the screen in exquisite Kasavu and Kanjivaram sarees, exuding beauty and tradition. The characters’ well-fitted shirts and period-appropriate hairstyles give Rocket Boys a realistic feel for the time, making it not just a riveting tale of ambition but also a visual feast for those who love vintage fashion.

THE ARCHIES
With the release of the movie The Archies, Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda will all make their acting debuts. The teaser has a lot of great qualities, but one of them is unquestionably the spot-on costume styling. We observe a wealth of lovely attire that radiates nostalgic charm and matches the mood of the original comic. Their easygoing, relaxed attire transports us to another era while still being simply worth buying. All of these components can be seen in the Archies teaser. A classic 90s wardrobe for women consists of a pair of high-waisted jeans or a miniskirt, a crop top or oversized t-shirt and a pair of combat boots or trainers.

GUNS & GULAABS
The web series Guns & Gulaabs, which captivated us with its action and drama, also transported viewers back in time with its vintage aesthetics. The costumes for the show were expertly re-enacted by the costume designers, who gave each episode a rich tapestry of vintage styles. Guns & Gulaabs seamlessly channelled the retro sentiments, reminding us of the timeless charm of clothing from earlier decades, from the pleated, high-waisted, baggy jeans to loud abstract prints and poly-blend T-shirts with boat-necks and colour blocking evocative of the 1960s to the vivid and psychedelic designs of the 1970s. It serves as evidence of how effectively fashion can be used to convey a story, increasing the whole viewing experience and transporting us to a bygone age.

THE VERDICT: STATE VS NANAVATI
The extraordinary KM Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra case, which dates back to 1959, is recounted in The Verdict – State vs. Nanavati. The web series from ZEE5 and ALTBalaji wonderfully re-creates the nostalgic appeal of the time when Mumbai was known as Bombay. The digital drama also depicts the era of glossy fashion, when Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe had a significant influence on the game, in a significant #FashionFlashback. Every piece of clothing worn by Elli AvrRam, Kubbra Sait, Sumeet Vyas, Angad Bedi, and Manav Kaul, among others who play the series’ key characters, wonderfully captures the era of elegant design. One of the most stylish wardrobes in recent memory can be regarded to be their respective ones. First of all, Kubbra and Elli’s clothes are quite stylish. The main ladies wore high-collared, bow-pleated, buttoned-up outfits that occasionally included net gloves.
